1. Services

Installing a Director in Lync Server 2013 creates only a minimal number of Windows services. The following services will be visible within the Services MMC after the Director installation:

• Lync Server Centralized Logging Service

• Lync Server Front End

• Lync Server Replica Replicator Agent

• SQL Server (LYNCLOCAL)

• SQL Server (RTCLOCAL)

• SQL Server Agent (LYNCLOCAL)

• SQL Server Agent (RTCLOCAL)

Tip

The SQL Server Agent services are installed, but set to disabled.

Additionally, the IIS World Wide Web Publishing Service will also be installed and running as part of the prerequisite installations.

The Lync Management Shell can also be used to check the current service status. Open the Lync Management Shell and run the following command:

Get-CsWindowsService

Review the status report:

Status    Name
------    ----
Running    W3SVC
Running    REPLICA
Running    RTCCLSAGT
Running    RTCSRV

Lastly, the state of a Director can always be viewed through the Lync Server Control Panel. To check the status of a Director pool, perform the following steps:

1. Open the Lync Server Control Panel.

2. Click Topology.

3. Highlight the server in question and click Properties.

4. Validate that the Service status column reports the green play button. A red square as shown in Figure 1 indicates that a required service is not running.
