As is the case with any computing device, it is a good idea to back up your Windows Phone 8 device, to prevent data from being lost if your phone is ever lost or destroyed. After all, you wouldn’t want to lose irreplaceable pictures, videos, or application data. Fortunately, Windows Phone 8 contains a mechanism for backing up the phone to the cloud. You can access the backup settings by going to the Settings page, scrolling down, and tapping Backup.

You can back up three types of data:

• App list and settings

• Text messages

• Photos and video

Windows Phone 8 can be configured to back up any combination of these data types.

Backing Up App Lists and Settings

When you back up your app lists and settings, you are really backing up your Internet Explorer favorites, a list of all the apps that were installed on the phone, and the configuration settings for your apps. You can back up your app list and settings by completing these steps:

1. Tap App List+Settings.

2. Set the Backup slide bar to the On position.
