Windows Phone 8 enables you to save content such as music, videos, and pictures directly to the phone’s internal storage. With the Phone Storage feature, you can see how much storage space is currently being used and redirect the storage of new content to an SD card (if available). You can access the Phone Storage settings by going to the Settings page and then scrolling to and tapping Phone Storage.

The Phone Storage screen shows the amount of storage being used (and the amount of free storage) on the phone and on the currently inserted SD card (if your phone supports the use of SD cards).

By default, music, videos, and pictures are saved to the phone’s internal storage. If you want to redirect the storage to an SD card, you can do so by going to the Phone Storage screen, tapping either Store New Music+Videos On or Store New Photos On and then choosing your preferred storage medium.

Note that you can change the preferred storage medium only if your phone supports the use of SD cards and you have an SD card installed in the phone. This is different from the SIM cards that some cellular providers use. Not all Windows Phone 8 devices allow for the use of SD cards.
